Lease

Lease was a collaboration with Sloane McFarland. Sloane bought a storefront on Central Avenue (Phoenix, Arizona USA), he quickly rented half of the space to the LUX coffee bar, but the other half was still vacant. To draw people to the space he decided to fill it with a project of some kind. He wanted to provide original music, both live and recorded, and he asked me to do something as well.

I built a 9 foot demi-wall, with the idea of doing a drawing on it every day while the space was vacant. The drawings were in black and white latex paint, and were done very quickly - less than an hour and a half each morning. Sloane painted over the image that evening, so I would have a fresh surface for the next day. Sloane wrote and performed specific musical works for each drawing.

On January third, 2001 channel three did a short live interview for their morning show, later that day Chris Bianco began negotiations to lease the space and we ended the project.
